Getting Your Story Written
Finally decided to write a novel, a book of poems, a biography or maybe even a children’s book? Having trouble getting started or finding it difficult to finish writing? Well, there are many different ways of “Getting Your story Written.” Depending on whom asked, they will give what works best for them most of the time.
“But What Will Work For You?”
It is a hard question to answer without knowing how a person thinks. With a few basic questions, no matter the type of a thinker, a person can easily be put on the right path to creating a story. How, is a great question….
• You first need to know “ What type of book do I want to write?” It is easier when you know what direction you are heading so picking your genre and audience should be your first step.
• Then after identifying the type of book you want, you then need to know “What type of information do I want to put in my book?” Here is where you start gathering content for your main ideas and side plots. Basically, what the story is about and what will take place during the main plot?
• By this time you should have a solid foundation on starting your book. So the next question you should be asking yourself is “What are the characters or who is the targeted audience for my book?” This question is largely predicated on the type of book you decide to write and will, therefore, change respectively.
What Next?
• After that question is asked the next important question is, “Where or at what point to start the story?” This is purely your choice based on what is easier or what makes more sense by the information you have gathered from answering all of these questions.
I am sure you have realized by this point, that you should have been writing all of this down in order to keep track of it all. Basically, take notes by writing down every detailed answer you have for each question. A good idea is to have a notebook or pad to annotate it all so you can always go back to it. Now you can be plotting and planning and never start actually writing your book but, here is where you…
“START WRITING!”
It may seem as if there might not be enough information. However, answering these questions in its entirety should give a decent list of information to pull away ideas. This is where you start writing. No matter if you are starting out with: “Once upon a time…” or “Can you believe what happened last year…” or maybe even “Little James likes red bikes…” You grab your pen or pencil and just start writing. We spend more time thinking instead of putting those thoughts into action. Just use the notes you have taken and put together your ideas based on that to start.
Naturally, more questions will arise as you get further into writing. And so you should write those questions and answers in your notes as well. Then begin writing some more. After a point, you will need to go back over all of your questions and answer them again. You should find that you have more answers to those same questions. These will only help to add to your story.
Need Help?
With these types of questions, the type of answers written will have different detailed information that will help along the way. As an advanced writer or finding it easy to write, the detailed information used should come easy. New or beginning writers may need to look for more guidance when it comes to how to apply the detailed information.
No matter what level of writer you are or what type of story you will write; if you are struggling to get your story written, then these should be some good basic points to help you along or to get you started.
